Kelley • A One Day Bride

25.06.2016

Married on the foreshore at St. Kilda’s Encore, Kelley and Aaron created a wedding that was a bright and modern event for their guests. Ensuring that their guests enjoyment was at the forefront of the planning process, this couple trusted their suppliers to pull off a wedding that wouldn’t be forgotten.

BRIDE’S FULL NAME… Kelley Bolger

GROOM’S FULL NAME… Aaron Lunardello

WEDDING DATE… Saturday 16th January 2016

WHEN AND HOW WE MET

We first met in 2010. Aaron proposed in October 2014 at Montalto Estate, a stunning winery in the Mornington Peninsula. It was a beautiful day and we had booked to have lunch. Aaron suggested that before lunch we take a walk around the vineyards and view the art sculptures. It was there that he got down on one knee and proposed. I was in complete shock! It was the perfect moment. I had said that I always wanted a proposal where it was just the two of us, and on that day at that time there was not a single person in sight. It was such a special and private moment for the two of us. After lunch we then finished the day off with a night’s stay at the stunning Port Phillip Estate. It was perfect!

 OUR WEDDING LOCATION

Our wedding ceremony was held at St Joan of Arc Catholic Church. It was really important to us that we had a catholic ceremony, and as soon as we saw St Joan of Arc and met Father Martin Dixon, we knew instantly that this was perfect for us. The church was small and felt so intimate and inviting for our 120 guests.

Our reception was held at Encore in St Kilda. Wow, we couldn’t have picked a better reception venue if we tried – it completely exceeded all expectations and our guests are still talking about the venue, amazing service and incredible food to this day! After visiting quite a few venues beforehand, we instantly fell in love with Encore the moment we walked in. The space was bright and modern and it felt perfect for us and what we wanted to achieve with our wedding day.

STYLING

We styled the wedding ourselves. This definitely was the part we underestimated and we found it so difficult and time consuming. We chose a venue and a space we knew would need limited styling, as it is so naturally modern and beautiful. Our theme evolved over the course of our planning and became simple, bright, modern and clean. We used white florals, crisp green foliage, rose gold and copper hues. We created a lot of our own stationery throughout the day, including our welcome sign and seating chart, and sourced our own décor items. It gave the reception a special and more personal touch. We worked with, and put complete trust in our suppliers. They really helped us bring all of our ideas together and create something so beautiful.

THE BEST ADVICE I WAS GIVEN

We received so much valuable advice. Obviously, the most common advice was to take a moment to ourselves at some point during the day. We built in 15 minutes of time during the reception when mains were being served for Aaron and I to duck out and walk along the beach in St Kilda. The photographer followed us out and took some photos. We were blessed with a perfect 25 degree day and the sunset that night was magical. The photos taken during this time were the best of the day! We will always cherish that beautiful moment together.

Another piece of advice is to write everything down that you would like to happen on the day and include this in a running sheet for your suppliers, family and bridal party. You are so overwhelmed on the day and will not be able to have the time to remember all of the important details that you would like to have. By creating a run sheet, our photographer kept us to time and she knew every single moment we wanted to capture, our venue coordinator knew exactly how we wanted the night to run, and our MC knew all of our expected timings.

Finally, take a breath and enjoy every moment of time spent with your family and friends in the lead up to, and on the big day. I will always cherish the time spent with my mum on the morning of our wedding.

WHAT WAS YOUR NON NEGOTIABLE FOR THE DAY?

Okay, so we had a few non-negotiables for the day! We said from the beginning of the wedding planning process that we would like to ensure that our guests have a great night. Therefore, the venue, food and entertainment were definitely the most important elements for the entire day. We also really wanted to have a drink to serve at the start of the reception. A Pimms Cup was the perfect summer drink for our guests to enjoy and really set the tone for the evening. Lastly, we wanted to celebrate the evening as much as our guests, therefore we chose to be out mingling with our guests during canapés. We made sure our formalities were limited so we had more time for dancing and enjoying the night!

HENS DAY

I was never really interested in having a formal kitchen tea, so instead my maid of honour, Giulia, arranged to have an afternoon tea before my hens at Madame Brussels in Melbourne. This was so lovely as all of my family and friends came along to this and we spent the afternoon together in the sunshine. We then stopped by Pellegrini’s for a quick coffee and then headed down to Bond Bar where we had a private room to ourselves and we danced the night away. We had so much fun!

RECEPTION VENUE: Encore, St Kilda

CELEBRANT: Father Martin Dixon – (03) 9593 1703

PHOTOGRAPHY: Sherise Fleming.

We came across Sherise on a real wedding feature on a bridal blog. Her photography style seemed to really fit with what we were looking for – natural and fun. We met with Sherise early one Sunday morning and from the moment we met her we knew she was the one! She was the first and only photographer we looked at. Yes, her photography was unbelievable good, but more importantly to us she was such a friendly person with a beautiful personality and we knew she would be so easy to work with on the day. We were right, she was incredible. It’s not often wedding guests would comment on your photography on the night of your wedding, but ours did. They couldn’t stop talking about how wonderful and easygoing she was.

VIDEO: The White Tree

We had selected The White Tree as our band and came across their videography on their website. They were definitely one of the easiest suppliers to work with in the lead up to the day. Their online portal made it so easy to include all the details and special moments we wanted to capture. We received our videos within six weeks of our wedding and were blown away.

INVITATIONS, MENUS AND PLACECARDS: Lauren Skorsis

DRESS & VEIL

Where do I even begin? I knew from the start that I wanted my dress to be from One Day Bridal. I was unsure of the exact style of dress I was looking for when starting out however I knew I wanted something delicate and naturally beautiful. More importantly a dress that was comfortable and made me feel like ‘me’. Kyha and Steph were incredible – they are so talented and creative. Right from the start, I felt totally comfortable with them and loved working with Khya and the One Day Team throughout the entire process. I really miss going to One Day Bridal for my dress fittings! I fell in love as soon as I saw the Florence gown on Instagram, and just knew this was the perfect dress for me. I felt so beautiful on our wedding day in my dress and veil and cannot thank the team enough!

HAIR: Peter Beckett from Edwards and Co

MAKEUP: Tess McFadden from Victims of Beauty

GROOM & GROOMSMEN SUITS: Soho Workshop

BRIDESMAID DRESSES

I had three bridesmaids in total – my friend Giulia was my Maid of Honour and we had our gorgeous nieces Hannah and Alex as Junior Bridesmaids. White Runway was perfect as they sell dresses in the same colour and/or style for adults and children.

FLOWERS

Jess from Sassafras Flower Design is fantastic! She helped us to create the arrangements for our day including a breathtaking suspended installation made up of beautiful bright green foliage with pops of white florals. My bouquet was an arrangement of ivory David Austin roses.

CAKE

I came across Nikos Cakes on a real wedding feature and they were the first and only cake supplier we met with. Again, keeping with our theme we wanted something understated, modern and bright. It was three-tiers filled with vanilla and honeycomb, alternating with vanilla and coconut. To this day, our wedding guests are still raving about our cake and how delicious it was!!! And they were right, it was yum!

BAND OR DJ

We had a five-piece band from The White Tree. Personally, the band was a non-negotiable for us. It adds so much energy to your reception, and really gets everyone up on to the dance floor. The band was incredible and performed our first dance song along with special songs throughout the evening that were important to us.

MC: Shane Jolley – 0403 276 448

CARS: Always Classic Cars

 GIFT REGISTORY/WISHING WELL

We already lived together and had all the items we needed for our home, so it made it an easy decision to have a wishing well.

ANY FURTHER MENTIONS

Our gorgeous Flower Girl Pia and our handsome Ringbearer Hudson really made our wedding day so special.
