WHEN AND HOW WE MET
Dan and I were both on a night out in Chapel Street with our respective friends. We had both frequented Hooha bar many times before but it was on a September night, 5 years ago that we finally found each other. It was honestly love at first sight.
OUR WEDDING LOCATION
Dan and I visited a number of venues, but as soon as we visited The Deck at Circa, we knew it was the perfect location for both our ceremony and reception. The beautiful sunset and beach views from the deck were breathtaking coupled with the copper lattices and tall glass windows that provided the perfect backdrop for our wedding.
One Day Stella Wedding Gown
As soon as I put on the One Day Bridal dress I knew it was the one. The delicate lace, fitted bodice and low back was exactly what I had been looking for. The staff at One Day Bridal were fantastic in accommodating any changes I wanted to make to ensure my dress was unique. They were also able to make a custom veil tapered with lace matching my dress which complimented my dress beautifully. I hope this will be a beautiful family heirloom I can pass down through the generations to come.
We both decided to lean away from the more formal seated dinner that we had so often attended. We wanted something unique, fun and laid back. The colour scheme reflected this with pops of colours including peach, mint and gold. This was offset by beautiful white furniture from Dann Event Hire and hundreds of tea light candles to provide an intimate and romantic atmosphere. Flowers were a large part of the decorations and the aspect I was most excited about. Kate Hill designed a beautiful hanging installation in the marquee as well as a beautiful cascade of flowers featured on our ‘chuppah’ (wedding canopy) which was used in our ceremony. It was truly breathtaking. I was lucky enough to have both Kate Hill, Tahli Engel from Comm Events and Ealaine Toing Style and Discourse to bring our vision to life.
THE BEST ADVICE I WAS GIVEN
Savour every moment and don’t sweat over the little things! Planning a wedding can be extremely stressful and not everything is going to go exactly the way that you had planned. I think one of the most important lessons I learnt was that of compromise. Although the wedding was to celebrate the love we have for each other, it is also a celebration for the family and it is integral that they feel a part of the wedding planning.
WHAT WAS YOUR NON NEGOTIABLE FOR THE DAY?
One thing I was adamant in including was a dessert station. I had been dreaming of creating one since my sister’s wedding 6 years ago. I couldn’t wait to work with ‘Treats for Evie’ as I had been admiring their sweets for years! Kathleen was able to create desserts that reflected our watercolor theme and the result was breathtaking. I was also able to work closely with Poppies for Grace to create a beautiful balloon garland that draped over the station to create a real feature.
Six weeks before our wedding, I suffered a nasty back injury which had me bed ridden up until the day of the wedding. All the plans that my bridesmaids had made had to be changed to accommodate my physical needs. The girls did an amazing job! We took sail on a boat from the St.Kilda Marina all the way to the docklands sharing stories, drinking and eating. By the end of the boat trip, I began to suffer quite a lot of pain, so instead of having the dinner that we had planned, we had a quick bite at a close restaurant and then I had to make my way home if I was any chance to make it to the wedding!
