Romy • A One Day Bride

10.06.2016

The very first snippet we saw of Romy and Ben’s wedding was their insane film by C2 Video. The fun and vibrant atmosphere made you want to be there and join in this epic celebration.

Dressed in a customised variation of our Charlie gown and sheath veil, this wedding planner sure knows how to throw a party!

BRIDE… Romy Ajzner

GROOM… Ben Ajzner

WEDDING DATE… 21 February 2016

WHEN AND HOW WE MET…

We have a lot of mutual friends and even though we lived in different cities, our paths crossed a few times without us even realizing it! However, it was a Facebook friend request from Ben that started a 10month courtship.

 OUR WEDDING LOCATION…

We got married in beautiful Byron Bay. It had always been a special place to us, we have spent many summer holidays and mini getaways there together. It is also where Ben proposed. A Byron Bay wedding had always been on the cards, we wanted a destination wedding, and the opportunity to give our friends and family a holiday!

 STYLING…

The property we chose was magnificent, rolling hills, lush greenery, horses, a beautiful maze – like a forest wonderland. We really didn’t need to do much else to the space! The theme was very casual and romantic. There was a lot of lush greenery and foraged items. My beautiful friend from Georgie Boy Flowers added her touch to bring the inside of the marquee to life, and match the surroundings. A very lush installation of greenery hung over the dance floor and pops of white with the additions of figs and lots of oversized braches and leaves were mindfully placed on the tables and bars. We filled the space with plants like Fiddle Leaf and Peace Lillies too. We engaged Frank and Joy in Byron Bay for furniture hire and they set up the most amazing leather butterfly chairs, wicker couches, many rugs, lots of linen, white and hessian tones with pops of blue in the Persian rugs. All tables were exposed wood, there were white wooden benches and Bentwoods, overhead festoons, and of course, lots of candles

THE BEST ADVICE I WAS GIVEN…

As a wedding planner, the best advice given was to me by another wedding planner who reiterated how important it is to try and separate myself from the detail in order to be present and try to not notice the little things. Being in Byron really set the the tone and made it easy to surrender to the day and be swept up in the celebration

WHAT WAS YOUR NON NEGOTIABLE FOR THE DAY?

Music is and was very important to us- we flew our band over from Sydney, we always knew that no matter what we would have them play at our wedding and they delivered beyond our wildest dreams!

HENS DAY…

My amazing friends and sisters created the dream Hen’s days. They set up a magical garden party. We were welcomed with incredible drinks and home made raw treats, followed by a rejuvenating yoga class. We then sat down to a delicious dinner in the garden under the most incredible willow tree. They had set a long banquet table filed with greenery and candles, pops of lace, marble place cards and crystal glassware! All the girls were wearing white lace, it was just magical

EVENT STYLING/PLANNING

Myself along with the incredibly talented friend Gina from Georgie Boy Flowers (Melbourne based) , and Maria from Frank and Joy (Byron Bay Based) did all the styling on the day.

CELEBRANT: We flew the family Rabbi in from Melbourne

PHOTOGRAPHY

We engaged the incredible Amelia Fullarton. I have been a fan of her work for years and knew she was always going to be my number one choice. She was so amazing on the day and captured countless beautiful moments. I felt so lucky to have her photograph our day.

VIDEO

My very dear friend Marcus from C2 Video was always going to be our number one choice. We flew him up from Melbourne for our celebration. Marcus and I have worked together many times and his story telling and capturing of weddings is unsurpassed. It was so special having him there and our video is just amazing.

DRESS & VEIL

Where do we begin! I was so inspired by a custom Charlie dress by Kyha at One day Bridal.  I loved the Charlie lace and wanted something subtly sexy, unique, modern, yet still elegant. I felt my dress captured all of those elements! It was such fun- perhaps the most fun I had in the lead up to the wedding. I loved every single fitting and trusted Kyha and Steph whole heartedly. The lace was incredible and the ladies hand placed evert bit of lace over the sheer mesh. It was truly my dream dress and the One Day veil was a non negotiable, it was just stunning.

HAIR + MAKE UP

My hair and makeup was done by my talented friend Monica Gingold. It was just beautiful and complimented the vibe, dress and me!

SHOES

I wore these amazing Scanlan and Theodore heels. They were white leather with a chunky Perspex heel. They were the perfect balance between edgy and understated. I loved them! I later changed into crisp white Converse sneakers which was just awesome!

BRIDESMAID DRESSES

I had my four sisters and sister in law. They all got to choose their dresses, the brief was white Broderie anglaise and neutral shoes. They all chose completely different outfits, tops, skirts, playsuits. they all looked gorgeous. We then used strands of baby Gyp through their hair.

FLOWERS

So simple and romantic. The girls had Gyp in their hair and I had a very rustic bouquet of incredible David Austins (that the florist had brought to Byron with her as hand luggage on the plane!)

INVITATIONS

My friend Kellie did our invitations, which incorporated rose gold embossed foiling and a custom font.

BAND OR DJ

Ilan Kidron and his band Glass. Our friends performed at the ceremony and my brother sang me down the aisle. Ben’s band also played a few songs during the evening- it was like a music festival!

 GIFT REGISTORY/WISHING WELL

We used Envelope Registry and Melbourne Wedding Registry

ANY FURTHER MENTIONS:

We are so fortunate to have so many talented friends and it was very important to us to incude as many of them in the day as possible.

Our dear friend Amichi from Mandrake Workshop made our ceremony chuppah which we transported to Byron. The chuppah is immensely symbolic in a Jewish wedding and to have a friend create such a beautiful one for us, was very special.
