25th March 2017

Rhys and I first met as friends when we were in high school. However, after Rhys moved schools a few years later and we lost contact. It wasn’t actually until after I had finished school that we re-kindled our friendship.

After a few months of a sudden, solid friendship, we made our relationship official while we were away with our friends on the river water-skiing and boating.

It was then 8 years later, after we had done lots of travel and built our first home, that Rhys proposed with a banner that he had made out of builders string-line and pegs and paper, that he hung across the whole length of our lounge room, on a nice quiet Wednesday night at home.

Our ceremony location was on the banks of the Murray River in Corowa, where we both grew up. We had known from early on that would be our ceremony location. We both share a love for the Murray River, and in particular Corowa, so choosing the ceremony location was the easiest part of our wedding.

Our reception was at All Saints Estate, Winery in Wahgunyah,  just across the river from our ceremony location. This is a beautiful old castle building, with a driveway lined with huge beautiful trees. The decision to have our reception here was also an easy one.

We actually didn’t even look anywhere else. We knew exactly what we wanted right from the start!

My bridesmaids booked me in to about 5 wedding designers one day to try on dresses. I thought I had an idea of what I wanted. A nice flowy bohemian two piece would you believe!!

But after a whole day of looking and trying on dresses I was finding the process not to be a pleasant one.

Our last appointment was at One Day Bridal, by this stage I was well and truly over searching.

However, when we got to One Day Bridal, we had champagne and cheese and biscuits and were taken upstairs to a private consulting room with a beautiful couch and mirror. We discussed what we were after, and what we had been trying on all day. She grabbed 2 dresses of the rack, and made me try them on.  After trying the first dress on, – a metallic, silver, full skirted dress I was in love!! Nothing like what I had originally pictured, but I knew it was the one, and so did everyone else.
One Day Bridal created the same style dress, but changing the silver metallic to a white metallic. It was perfect and all my guests on the wedding day absolutely loved the metallic look and how it just sparkled in the sun when I moved.

My bridesmaids wore short, fun, white off the shoulder Nicholas The Label dresses. I wanted our wedding to be a fun party, and these dresses matched that idea perfectly. We paired them with Tony Bianco black heels. The look was elegant, but still fun and playful.

The groomsmen’s suits were from Peter Jackson. We went with slim fit, black suits with black bow ties.

My Bridesmaids organised a winery tour for my Hens Day. We were picked up by a big coach from my home in the morning. We were taken to 3 wineries in the Yarra Valley. For those who were brave enough to stay, we continued on with a good old fashioned house party. I loved this because it was also very stress free, we were all together, we didn’t have to worry about transport in and out of the city, and we were free to really relax and let our hair down in the comfort of my own home.

My advice for future brides is be organised. I was lucky because I LOVED the wedding planning process. I love organising things and have 10 spreadsheets on the go at any one time. But this made the process and the day run so smoothly. Even though we wanted our day to be a big relaxed party, we still had to be organised behind the scenes and during the lead up.

After you have everything organised, just sit back and enjoy your day, don’t stress the small stuff, because people really won’t even notice! People are more likely to notice things like a happy bride and groom, or a stressed bride and groom.

Trust your bridal party, they will not let you down, they will go over and above to make sure your day is perfect, and trust everyone else that you have given little jobs to throughout the day.

I had a hard time doing this, I just wanted to do everything myself to ensure it was done right, but on the morning of your wedding you really just have to let go and trust that other people will get all those little jobs done for you. They will, and it will be perfect.
