OLIVIA • A ONE DAY BRIDE
OLIVIA + ALLESSANDRO
24th OCTOBER, 2015
A story of high school sweat hearts. Two lovers forming a life together since they were sixteen. Spending each anniversary at Melbourne’s Crown Casino, this place holds a special place in their hearts. So when Alessandro proposed here, Olivia knew this was there they would become husband and wife. Photographed by the talented Lilli Waters, Olivia looked stunning in a customised version of our Stella wedding gown accessorised with a One Day Sheath Veil.
WHEN AND HOW WE MET
We met when we were sixteen at an after party where Alex tried to speak to me but my best friend who was in my bridal party didn’t let him near me as she was extremely protective. However being typical Alessandro he doesn’t let anything deter him after that he perused me endlessly for six months until I finally said yes. We are the story of classic high school sweethearts; we went to university together and even did the long distance thing for ten months, we have shared so many significant milestones together such as graduating university to building our first home.
OUR WEDDING LOCATION
St Patricks Cathedral and Crown Towers – River Room. Crown is a very special place to myself and Alessandro as we have made a ritual of staying at Crown and going out for dinner there for each of our anniversaries. Alessandro took me out to Nobu for a special dinner and proposed to me at Crown in our suite and I instantly knew that the place where he asked me to be his wife and where we had spent so many anniversaries had to be the place we became husband and wife after almost nine years of being together.
I always knew the style of dress I wanted, probably for the past eight years. I even have sketches to prove it! I had always searched for my dress however could never find anything until I came across One Day Bridal. I remember being so excited finding their Instagram page that I literally flooded one of my bridesmaids with all of my tags in their photos. I met with One Day Bridal around fourteen months before the wedding and discussed my style and instantly they got me and I tried on a few of their dresses and from there we discussed laces, styles fits etc in the next meetings. The thing I loved about One Day Bridal it was that their dresses were more fashion then bridal.
Our theme was classic clean and simple white. All white linen with a touch of gold, which linked into the gold foil invitations done by Wedding Paper Chic. We didn’t use a stylist as all of the concepts that I knew I wanted I worked with my suppliers to achieve this. I knew I wanted our wedding to be timeless and didn’t want to look back at our styling choices and say what we were thinking! We achieved this look with white floral’s and hints of green through them, the bridesmaid dresses were white I included gold by having gold candle stands on the tables accompanied by gold menu’s. With Alessandro I didn’t get to see his suit or even know what his suit was like until I walked down the aisle and was very happy that he went with white, which just flowed even more, into our theme.
THE BEST ADVICE I WAS GIVEN
I wasn’t actually given any particular advice by anybody, which I found extremely refreshing. I did decide to give myself some own advice, which was to take as much in as I could and to dance with my husband as much as I possibly could as he never dances at functions so this was my chance to lock him down.
WHAT WAS YOUR NON NEGOTIABLE FOR THE DAY?
Without doubt the photographer Lilli Waters. She was simply amazing. She instantly got me from the first meeting and I knew that our photos would turn out amazing. I had seen work she had done on other brides and loved that she shot editorial style rather than the typical bridal style, everything she shoots is so natural and raw.
It was a hen’s night organised by my beautiful maid of honour and sister. I had no idea what was happening, as it was all a surprise. We were in Melbourne myself and my sister, best friend, mum and my best friends mum all got our makeup done and did some shopping for the day. We started off with Dinner with some of my close friends and family at one of my favourite restaurants at Crown Gradi. We ate Pizza, pasta and beautiful wine before heading off to a venue. Lets just say Magic Mike had nothing on this venue, I don’t think I have ever laughed so much in my life, however I do think that my mother in law, step mother and own mother had as much fun as I did. My sister organised personalised gift bags which had a survival kit in for each of the guests which was needed by a couple of the ladies at the end of the night. After my hen’s night my beautiful bridal party also threw me a beautiful bridal shower were I was surrounded by 40 of my closest friends and family which was a high tea with lots of champagne and fun.
YOUR ADVICE FOR FUTURE BRIDES
Just remember to think about what’s important, you and your husband. We did everything the way that we wanted for the day and we didn’t regret a thing, always stick to your guns! Lastly always be in the moment with him as much as you possibly can, as this is one of the best days of your lives together.
